Spanish 21 is very popular at land based casinos but is hard to find online. Not many USA online casino offer Spanish 21 and BetOnline is actually the only online casino we recommended that offers Spanish 21. This may be because when properly played, Spanish 21 offers a lower house edge than traditional blackjack.

If you are unsure of how to play Spanish 21 it is very similar to traditional blackjack but pays odds on several hands. Spanish 21 is dealt with a 48 card deck because all four 10’s are removed. This makes it less likely that you or the dealer will be dealt Blackjack on your first two cards. With that said, one quick thing to remember in Spanish 21 is that insurance is not a good bet. If the dealer shows an Ace up top we do not recommend buying insurance. The dealer only has a 25% chance of having blackjack and with insurance only paying 2-1 it is a sucker bet. To get even odds on insurance it would need to pay 3-1 so avoid insurance. Also if you as a player are dealt Blackjack you always win even if the dealer has blackjack as well.

Other difference between Spanish 21 and traditional blackjack include the ability to double down on any number of cards. Some casinos will even allow you to double double down. An example of the would be if you had 4-5 and doubled. You then receive a 2 for your total to be 11. You could then double again.

You can also split up to 4 hands including Aces and can draw cards after splitting Aces. Doubling down is also allowed after splitting Aces and you can even split Aces again. You can also surrender after doubling down if you wish.

In Spanish 21 if you draw to 21 with any amount of cards it always wins regardless of what the dealer has. You also receive odds for drawing to 21 on several different occasions. Draw to 21 with 6,7,8 or 7,7,7 and receive 3-2 odds on your bet. If the cards are the same suit you receive 2-1 odds and if they are all spades you receive 3-1!

Because of these differences and odds you can receive the house edge is lower than traditional blackjack is played properly and if the dealer must stand on all 17’s.
