Understanding The UIGEA
The UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) has has great controversy and misunderstanding about it since it was passed back in 2006. Many United States residents do not understand what the UIGEA really is and for that matter many lawmakers did not understand it either when they passed it.
We have created a web page explaining what the UIGEA really is and how it was passed. See our explanation of the UIGEA to understand what it means to you and a brief history on how it was passed. Many believe the UIGEA made it illegal for United States residents to gamble online, but is actually a law that prohibits US banks to knowingly process gambling related transactions. In all of our research and conversations regarding the UIGEA, it is our understanding that no where in the bill does it make actual gambling online illegal for US residents. We are not lawyers but we agree and it is our understanding that this law does not make online gambling illegal.
With that said you can read about the UIGEA and draw your own conclusions. Many USA online casinos do not recognize the law as none of them are located or licensed in the United States and therefor making them USA legal casinos. Because they are located outside the United States it their stance they do not need to abide to US laws.
